WordPress just reminded me that it has been one year since I created this website and began this journey. It’s a mixed-feeling anniversary. The idea for this blog had been in my mind for a long time – something to reach out and encourage young women in similar life seasons as myself. Writing has always been a passion of mine, a means to express myself, and the way I best communicate. I’d been writing on a personal blog off-and-on for a few years, mainly just updates for my family and friends, but in my heart, there was this seed of an idea for something more. I wanted to write on a venue that would reach farther outward, touching and encouraging other women. But I couldn’t get up the courage to go for it. I worried that I didn’t have enough to say.

And then, in June of 2015, I had a miscarriage. And to cope with that, I needed to write. So I wrote in my journal, wrote on my  blog, wrote on Facebook, and wrote emails to people I loved. In the midst of grieving and writing, I recognized that God wanted to use this heartbreak. He didn’t want me to keep it to myself, but to keep sharing it – writing about it – to help other women going through the same thing.

It was then that Be Still Waiting Heart was born. Based on recent life experiences, I already could have written to an audience of single girls, new wives, and Christian young women in general, but suddenly there was a whole new group of people I could write to, as well- childless mothers, those who had longed for and lost a baby- because suddenly I was one of them. That experience was the transition point, the thing that finally gave me enough of a push to take that step forward and start the writing.

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year. I continue to pray that God will use this little place on the web to uplift and strengthen the women who cross its path.

On a similar note, I have a little announcement- my friend Ashley is launching a new website next month called Youer Than You, and she has asked me to be one of the monthly contributing writers! I’m excited about this opportunity, and collaborating with several other ladies to bring this new project to life. It officially launches on October 4th, and my first post will be on October 8th, so be sure to check it out!
